Due to Covid-19, Seminars have been suspended until it is determined that they are safe to resume.
Monthly, the Commissioner of Accounts conducts informal seminars, at the Commissioner’s office, 4114-A East Parham Road, Henrico, Virginia, 23228, to explain the proper completion of an estate inventory and account, and discuss generally, other issues involved in estate administration.
No legal advice is given on your estate, however, questions regarding your estate which are relevant to the completion of the inventory and accounts, are entertained by the Commissioner.
Each seminar is limited to seventeen (17) fiduciaries who have qualified in the Clerk’s Office of the Henrico County Circuit Court. Only one (1) of multiple fiduciaries of an estate may attend the same seminar due to space limitations.
The seminars are generally conducted on the third Wednesday of each month; however, this schedule is highly flexible to accommodate the Commissioner’s schedule.
Note: If you are the fiduciary on a Conservatorship, Trust or Minor’s Guardianship these seminars will probably not benefit you. You should consult the instructions contained on this website and the four page specific instructions given to you at qualification (and available for printing on this website).
Individual instruction will not be given to any fiduciary regarding completion of your duties and accounting. If you have questions regarding administration or you are unable to file a proper inventory and/or account, you should immediately engage an estate administration attorney, CPA or other professional to assist you.
INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS WITH AN AUDITOR MUST BE APPROVED BY THE COMMISSIONER OF ACCOUNTS AND SUCH MEETINGS ARE RARELY GRANTED. IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE YOU SHOULD ENGAGE AN ESTATE ADMINISTRATION ATTORNEY OR CPA FAMILIAR WITH ESTATE ACCOUNTINGS.
Attendance at the seminars is by appointment only, and limited to Henrico fiduciaries only, unless otherwise permitted by the Commissioner.
Please call Yvette at 804-346-4700 for an appointment to attend one of the seminars if you personally are planning to complete the inventory and accounting obligations and have never done so before.
If you have engaged an attorney or cpa to advise you on administration of the estate and/or prepare your inventory and accounts, there is generally no benefit in attending a seminar.
